How a booking through Kusicar works, in the plainest words we can find.
Who you are dealing with
Two companies, and it matters which is which.
- Kusicar is a booking and service agent. We take your request, confirm the car, prepare your documents and answer support for the whole rental
- Kibabu Cars supplies the car. They own it, insure it, hand it over, take it back, collect payment onsite and issue the receipt
- Kusicar owns no vehicles and does not rent one to you. The rental itself is between you and the company that supplies the car
- We say this on every page rather than in the small print, because it is the arrangement, not a technicality
You are given the supplier’s name and contact details again, in writing, in your booking confirmation before you travel.
What you get, and what it costs
One car, one rate, and no charge for the airport at either end.
- The car
- A self-drive Toyota RAV4One price for any RAV4 in the fleet. You are not quoted for the smallest one and handed a different one at the airport.
- The rate
- US$40 per dayPer rental day, with unlimited mileage within Zanzibar.
- Collection and return
- At the airport, both waysThere is no delivery to a hotel or a beach, in either direction. This is the whole offer, not the cheapest tier of it.
- The driving permit
- Filed before you landEvery driver needs the Zanzibar permit, and it is charged separately.
Everything charged outside the daily rate is written out on prices. You are told your total, and the currency, in writing before you travel.
Paying
Nothing is charged on this website, at any point.

- No prepayment is required to hold a car

- Payment is in cash: US dollars, euros or Tanzanian shillings. There is no card machine yet, so bring the amount with you
- We never ask you to pay us instead of the company supplying the car. If anyone does, message us before you pay
The clauses
Cancellation, cover, the ceiling on damage and the deposit, each in one sentence. We would rather you read them before you book than discover them in a dispute.
- Cancelling or changing a booking
- Free until you collect the carThis is the whole of it. There is no separate cancellation fee, and no amendment charge for changing your dates before you collect the car. Nothing is paid before you collect the car, so cancelling before then costs you nothing and there is no refund to chase. Once the car is handed over, days you do not use are not refunded.
- What the insurance covers
- Stated in the agreement you signThe car is insured for self-drive hire, and serious damage, total loss and theft go through that insurance. You pay for the things every rental company here excludes: tyres, wheels and rims, glass and mirrors, the roof, the undercarriage, the interior, lost keys, and damage from the wrong fuel. Damage you cause to other people's property is covered by the car's policy within its limits. Injury to other people, the driver and passengers themselves, and belongings left in the car are not covered by it.
- The most you can be asked to pay for damage
- $500For damage to the car, the most you can be asked to pay is $500. That ceiling is written into the agreement you sign, and it applies to every rental at no extra charge: there is no damage waiver or extra protection to buy. Nothing is charged without an itemised repair invoice, and you get a copy of it.
- Deposit
- None, of any kindNo security deposit, no prepayment, and nothing blocked on a card. Rental companies here commonly hold 100 to 200 dollars against a card or in cash for the length of the rental. We hold nothing.
- Limits on the supplier's own liability to you
- None are statedThe $500 ceiling above runs the other way: it limits what you can be charged, not what you can claim. Nothing limits what the supplier owes you, and none should be read into that absence. A limitation clause is not something to improvise.
What we commit to today
Short, and every line of it is something already built rather than something intended.
- Your total, and the currency, in writing before you travel
- The car checked and road-tested before every handover
- Photographs taken with you at handover and at return, so a disagreement about damage is settled by a record rather than by memory
- One support thread, on one number, from the day you reserve to the day you hand the car back
- Written confirmation at return, or a provisional receipt naming the exact open issue
- Your passport and licence kept for six months after the rental and then deleted, automatically
- No damage charged to you without an itemised repair invoice. If one is not produced, tell us before you pay
