Insurance and the Zanzibar driving permit
The car is insured and your permit is arranged before you land. What the insurance covers and excludes is confirmed with you in writing before handover.
Insurance
What is certain today
- The vehicle is insured for paid self-drive hire
- The insurance terms that apply to you are confirmed at handover, before you sign anything
- The exact policy wording for paid self-drive hire, foreign drivers and additional drivers is being confirmed with the insurer
- Every driver on your booking must hold a valid Zanzibar driving permit
What we will publish once it is confirmed
Ask us before you reserve and we will tell you exactly what the provider has confirmed to us for your dates. Meanwhile, support covers what to do at the roadside.
The Zanzibar driving permit
Every visiting driver needs a Zanzibar driving permit. Your home licence on its own is not enough. We arrange the permit with your booking, so it is in your hand at the car rather than on your list for the first morning.
The permit fee Kibabu Cars publishes, checked on 14 August 2026. The provider’s figure, not ours.
The permit explained in full and what happens at a checkpoint go into more detail.
Who provides the car
- Kibabu Cars owns the vehicle, holds its insurance and is the contracting party for your rental.
- You pay Kibabu Cars directly at handover and receive their receipt. This website does not process payment.
- We arrange the booking, check the vehicle against our standard, prepare your documents and answer support.
Ask about your cover
Tell us your dates and who will drive. We will tell you what the provider has confirmed, and say so plainly where something is still open.
