Car hire at Zanzibar airport

We meet you on arrival at Abeid Amani Karume International Airport with a name sign, hand the car over and take payment there — or at an agreed point close by, if a handover at the terminal is not possible that day.

Your meeting point comes with your booking
You are met in arrivals and taken to the car. Your exact meeting point comes with your booking. Airports change what may be driven up to the terminal, so the car is sometimes parked a short walk away — either way, someone is waiting for you and walks you to it.

The ten-minute handover

The handover takes about ten minutes after you reach the car. It is deliberately short: everything that can be read in advance is sent to you before you travel, so the time at the car is spent on safety, documents, condition and your questions.

  1. Step 1: 0 to 1 minuteYou are met and greeted, your identity is checked discreetly, and the registration and transmission of your car are confirmed.
  2. Step 2: 1 to 3 minutesThe controls that matter: starting, the gear selector, the parking brake, air conditioning, lights, indicators, wipers, mirrors, the fuel door and where the spare and tools live.
  3. Step 3: 3 to 5 minutesYour permit and the car papers. Only the critical reminders: drive on the left, seatbelts, how to respond calmly at a checkpoint, and how to reach support.
  4. Step 4: 5 to 8 minutesCondition. Dashboard, odometer and fuel are photographed, the exterior and interior are recorded, existing marks are noted, and you are invited to add your own photographs. You both sign, and you get a copy.
  5. Step 5: 8 to 10 minutesPayment to the provider and their receipt, a test message on the support thread, then the keys.

If your flight is late

Nothing to do. We track the flight’s actual arrival rather than its scheduled time, so a delay does not leave anyone waiting in the wrong place.

Bringing the car back

You return the car at the airport, at the time agreed when you collect it. We check it with you against the photographs taken at handover, and you get written confirmation before you leave.

  • Your national driving licence, for every driver
  • The amount due, in the currency agreed with the provider
  • Your booking reference and the support thread on your phone

Questions about the handover

What if my flight is delayed?
Send your flight number when you reserve, and tell us if it changes. A delay moves the handover with it.
What do I do once I have landed?
Message the support thread once you have landed and cleared immigration.
What if I cannot find the representative?
Message or call the support number before you leave the terminal.
Is there a fee for the airport handover?
No. Being met on arrival and returning the car at the airport are part of the daily rate. The Zanzibar driving permit and an additional driver are charged separately, and both are on prices.
